This is the main phone socket in your home - you’ll find it by following the phone line that comes into your house from outside. It’s usually a little larger than a normal phone socket and often has a horizontal line in the middle. If you have a standard master socket you’ll need to use a microfilter for every socket that has a device connected to it. If you can’t find your standard master socket, simply connect your Super Router to a convenient phone socket. Your broadband will still work but won’t perform as well.
Use the master phone socket to get the best broadband speed and stability. For more information please see our guide on master sockets.
If you have a pre-filtered master socket, you won't need to use microfilters in your home. Using microfilters with this type of socket will hinder your broadband performance.
- If you have a phone cable already inserted, temporarily remove it.
- If you have a microfilter inserted, completely remove it and remove any cables connected to it.
- If you have a splitter connected then remove this also.
- If you have a pre-filtered master socket remove all cables.
Important: Check around your home and unplug any existing broadband equipment and recycle it. You can recycle your old router in a few simple steps with TalkTalk Trade-In. Always use the latest equipment provided by TalkTalk for the best connection.
If you have a standard master socket:
Fit the microfilter with the grey broadband cable attached into your master phone socket.
Fit the phone cable or splitter that you previously removed into the port marked phone on the microfilter.
Connect the other end of the grey broadband cable into the grey port labelled "Broadband" at the back of your Super Router.
Plug in the power supply at the wall and connect the other end to the back of the Super Router. Turn on the power.
Press the on/off switch found at the side of the Super Router.
Your line is activated when the Power, Broadband and Internet lights go solid green. This can take a few minutes.
IMPORTANT:
- Fit a microfilter to any other phone sockets in use in your home to ensure a strong cable connection.
- Never plug microfilters into other microfilters. This will affect your TalkTalk broadband performance.
- Keep your Super Router away from other electrical devices (like baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones or wireless speakers).
If you have a pre-filtered master socket:
Remove the grey broadband cable we sent you from the microfilter.
Fit one end of the grey broadband cable into the square slot of your master phone socket.
